I have a 2012 with 7500 miles 57L Hemi. Hemi Lifter Purge Guideline 1.
I just bought 3 days ago and didnt know anything about it.

The 57 Hemi is one of the most popular gasoline engines in North America and its pretty reliable for the most part however no engine is perfect and the 57 certainly has its flaws. These engines are known to snap exhaust manifold bolts and the MDS may be pretty stubborn at times but the most notorious problem on the 57 Hemi is the ticking noise dubbed the Hemi. Some Hemis do it and some dont.
My current Ram and Charger do not make any noise on start up even after sitting for weeks at a time. I had a 2015 Challenger with the 57L that clattered on start up even after sitting for 1 day. If it sat for a week it sounded like the engine.
There has been a lot of speculation about what the cause could be to make the lifters tap on a few Hemis particularly the 57 liters Hemi engines. If the lifters are tapping we should check whether we are employing the accurate kind of oil or if the amount of oil is optimum. If we use a low-quality fuel it can cause the 57 Hemi to tick.

When the salesman pulled it around from behind their building there was quite the loud lifter tapping sound. We inquired about it and were told that it was normal for a late model Hemi engine at start up after sitting a while. Discussion Starter 1 Jul 11 2013 Edited It hasnt been started for about 7 days never had this issue before between starting intervals - it almost sounds like a bucket of bolts rattling. I have a 2012 with 7500 miles 57L Hemi. After about 10 seconds I turned it off and restarted back to normal.
