Early hemi oiling system. The hemi has a good oil system with the main oil galley running down the right hand side of the block feeding the main and cam bearings. There are oil holes in the 1 and 4 cam journals feeding oil up to the rocker arms. I recommend not blocking these off completely however your could restrict them slightly.
One design element which was similar in all early Hemis relates to the oiling system. Each engine utilized a canister type oil filter assembly. During each oil change you simply removed one bolt to pull the top of the canister off and replace the paper filter element.

I did note warnings about worn lifter bores rockers and shafts bleeding off needed pressure. Common for many engines. There are some oil filter related items offered by several vendors.
This engine oiler system consists of a tank and hose hookup. All that is required is pressurized air. Simply fill the tank with 4 quarts of oil pump the tank up to about 100 psi.
And turn the valve. The air pressure forces the oil into the engine and pressurizes the entire oiling system. Do not compare the Hemi oiling system to something else unless you are comparing only the block to the A-LA.
Top end oiling is one of the recurring issues that we hear about and lack of oil is almost always tied to some blockage. Many times it is because the rocker assembly rebuild was done on the shop floor and either the 2 stand is plugged with crap or the shafts are still full of shit or installed. Not uncommon for something to break loose in the oil galleries or rocker shafts unless the block is oven baked clean and had the living pee blown and cleaned out of it and had the shafts stands arms spotlessly cleaned prior to rebuilding. I ran an early Isky roller tappet cam with a mod reccomended by Skip Readiothat was to block each individual lifter bore oil hole with a stainless grub screw Each Grub screw had a small hole drilled in it to cut the oil flow to each tappetno hydrualics This allowed more flow to the rockers hard chromed shafts to gain a bit of reliability and longer life A small hole was drilled in the plug adjacent. On a new engine it takes 15 qrts to get oil to fill the lifters. I use a small block oil pump and a drill. I have less then 30 in the set up plus some time.
The stage 3 block is a water block. Oil will squirt by the head stud coming from the block and fill the block as it is also oiling the rockers. You may be damaging the valve train as the block is filling with oil.

Machine Work Assembly 30. This is highly recommended with early Hemi blocks due to possible core-shift corrosion and other factors that may eliminate the block from use. Most early-Hemi blocks have plenty of material in the cylinders and can clean up for a good overbore but a sonic-check is cheap insurance.
